Systems Stack
14 kill signals for your Shopify app stack.
Two of these active means it's worth a look. Five or more means the audit is overdue. Pulled straight from the Systems Stack job pages, one checklist.

- You installed a paid ESP months ago and you're still using the default template. If Klaviyo or a competitor has been running on autopilot with no real segmentation, you're paying for automation you never turned on. Email covers when to downgrade.
- A customer got the same email twice, 10 minutes apart. That's two senders (Shopify Email and Klaviyo, usually) both trying to own the same automation. Pick one owner per job.
Reviews
- You're paying for a reviews app and have single-digit total reviews. Downgrade to the free plan or cancel it, you're paying for automation you don't need yet.
- The reviews widget is costing 400ms+ of JavaScript on the product page. Keep the app for collection if you need it, but replace the display with theme code. Reviews has the specifics.
Support
- You're copying and pasting the same three answers every day. That's a macro, a Flow automation, or a self-service theme page, not a reason to hire.
- 30–40%+ of tickets are "where is my order." Build self-service order lookup before buying another helpdesk seat or ticket tier. Support covers WISMO in detail.
Merchandising + AOV
- An upsell app costs more per month than the AOV it's actually adding. If the app's fee exceeds the marginal revenue, kill it, most upsell apps at low volume cost more than they generate.
- A bundle or upsell app is adding 400ms+ of JavaScript to the product page. Either replace the display with theme code or kill it. Merchandising + AOV has the band-by-band call.
Speed + app bloat
- You uninstalled an app months ago and its JavaScript still loads. That's ghost code, check
theme.liquidand the Assets folder for leftover snippets. - Your product page fails Core Web Vitals on mobile. LCP over 2.5 seconds or INP over 200 milliseconds means real app bloat, not a rounding error. Speed + App Bloat covers the audit.
Subscriptions
- You installed ReCharge or Bold for basic subscribe-and-save and never touched the advanced features. If skip, swap, and pause are all you use, native Subscriptions does the same job for free.
- A subscription app's transaction fee has outgrown the features you actually use. Run the real math, a percentage fee that compounds forever eventually costs more than a migration project. Subscriptions walks through it.
Ops + automations
- Someone is manually tagging orders by hand every day. That's a five-minute Shopify Flow, not a recurring task for a person.
- Someone is manually copying orders to a spreadsheet, or emailing the warehouse every morning. That's a Zapier or Flow job. If a person is still in the loop on a daily task, automate it. Ops + Automations covers the ladder from Flow to custom.
How to use this
Go job by job. If two or three of these are true for your store right now, that's normal, most stacks drift a little between audits. If five or more are true, the stack has outgrown the last time anyone looked at it.
We build this for clients: audit the stack, kill the app when that's the job, or implement the right tool for the band. Storefront, business automations, and email. A project or a retainer. Contact us or start with the storefront scan.
Straight answers.
A concrete, checkable sign that a tool should be removed or replaced, not a hunch. If you can't point to the number or the behavior, it's not a kill signal yet.
